Colorful Taxis: Only in Amazing Thailand

My two kids don't want to take the usual yellow taxi they are used to back home so we always have to wait for any other colors. Their favorite taxi colors include blue, pink, purple, orange and green.
Thanks to Chris, my German friend who is an architect, designer and a photography lecturer at the School of Architecture and Design of KMUTT for all these professionally shot photos of colorful taxis here in Bangkok. He himself is greatly fascinated with such a colorful sight especially when various colors of taxis come close together during a traffic jam. They all look so bright decorating the roads in Bangkok.

Yea, I remember those taxis came about in 2006 and there's a rumour that they were Thaksin's and the drivers were from his province of Chiangmai--is he from chiangmai? anyway somewhere there.
have you got in a taxi where you can pay by card yet? I saw one but didn't bother to take a photo. Please also blog about the special taxis where you can cook tomyum noodles.
By the way, great photos. I notice there are no yellow ones--hmmm!!! I think the rumour might be true.

scribbler, thanks for the info that these colorful taxis came out in 2006. didn't know that and i was already here that time.
there are still yellow cabs running but my friend, chris, who took these photos did not take them by intention as they're common everywhere.
the rumor may or may not be true as there were factions of taxi drivers during the red and yellow fighting. they were identified according to the shirt or bracelet they wore but that didn't last long.
haven't seen a cab yet where you can cook tomyum kung. hope i could find one and take a pix of it.
thanks for always sharing your rich background and experience about amazing thailand.

fe, if you get the chance to come to thailand you will really experience how amazing it is. it's not actually for color coding but as you have rightly guessed, for art. it's one of their great attractions for the tourists here. most of their taxis are very new and bright.
